POSITION: Project Manager / Engineer – Seismic Risk Services

LOCATION: Greater Los Angeles, CA area


POSITION SUMMARY

AEI Consultants has a new opportunity available for an experienced Project Manager / Engineer within our Building Assessment – Seismic Risk Services Division. As a Seismic Risk Services Project Manager, your primary responsibilities will include performing Seismic Risk Assessments of existing commercial properties. Working knowledge of building codes and ASCE 41-13 Standards is required. Experience in performing Seismic Risk Assessments and writing technical reports is required.


The Project Manager position is a unique opportunity that will expose you to all building types and structural systems. You will have the opportunity to assess and report on the seismic risk of a variety of commercial projects including multifamily residential, office, hospitality, retail, industrial, educational, religious, recreational, medical, assisted living properties and marinas. The project manager should be familiar with historic codes and the performance of building systems in seismic events. A candidate for this position should have a background in structural engineering and building forensics. A college degree in one of these disciplines as well as industry experience as noted below is required. Seismic Risk Assessment work requires technical writing proficiency, photography skills, and an understanding of cost estimating for structural remediation and retrofit purposes. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct site visits to provide structural assessment of building structural systems and note distressed or deficient conditions
  • Take photos of building structural systems
  • Conduct basic interviews and research covering property history
  • Review structural plans and geotechnical reports
  • Make recommendations for seismic retrofit and probable costs for building systems using our cost and recommendation      libraries
  • Write clear and concise seismic risk assessment reports using our in-house report templates
  • Conduct public records research regarding building permit history
  • Observe general compliance of as-built conditions with the structural drawings and specifications
  • Manage multiple projects
  • Capable of managing stairs as well as two- or three-story ladders
  • Work as a team member, utilizing the experience and knowledge of senior authors who will review and critique your reports before delivery to our clients
  • Deliver outstanding client service with timely responses and proactive solutions

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10 years of structural design experience
  • 5 years of experience designing seismic retrofit of buildings
  • 3 years of experience performing SRAs
  • Knowledge and experience in assessing various property types preferred
  • Familiarity with construction best practices, general building codes, and building types
  • Passion for being detail oriented and organized
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Advanced writing and communication skills
  • Personable and able to communicate with people at all levels
  • Willingness to travel if necessary
  • Self-starter, resourceful, and the ability to work productively and independently on multiple projects at a time under strict deadlines with guidance from senior staff
  • Ability to occasionally climb ladders to access two and three story, low-slope roofs
  • Physical fitness to work outside and navigate stairs, sites, and building interiors
  • Experience with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or HUD guidelines and Property Needs Assessments a plus

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certification as a Professional Civil or Structural Engineer in California (other states may be acceptable)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The work environment may be indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers to manipulate, handle or reach; and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, balance, kneel or crouch. The      employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus.
